Here’s something to add to your to-watch list: the local adaptation of Descendants of the Sun is now on Netflix!
The series follows special forces captain Yoo Si-jin and doctor Kang Mo-yeon as they fall in love while providing aid in a country ravaged by natural disaster and civil strife. The original series starred Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
In the local adaptation, Dingdong Dantes stars as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Special Forces Captain Lucas Manalo a.k.a. “Big Boss.” He is joined by Jennylyn Mercado who portrays his love interest, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz.
The story follows them both trying to distance themselves from one another due to their demanding and dangerous jobs while finding their way back to one another anyway under the hands of fate, overcoming all the disasters that come their way.
The Filipino adaptation premiered this February and is still ongoing. Dantes is joined by Jennylyn Mercado, Rocco Nacino, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and more.
So far, 30 episodes are available on Netflix, with five episodes added each Friday.
Just this September, Dantes was given the Asian Star Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards for his portrayal of Big Boss.
