Sometime in July, a wedding proposal went viral on Facebook. A series of photos of a man proposing to his girlfriend at a local fast food joint was being shared left and right on the social media site. And, like most people, I was curious about the whole event, so I caught up with the man behind it all, Dexter, and asked him about the proposal. Here’s what he shared:

Q: How did you meet? How long have you been together?
[Our story is simple. I’m a teacher and she was a [senior high school] student at the same school. We always run into each other because we belong in the same department. Then we started texting and calling each other. We started developing feelings for each other because we have the same family issues.
Even though it was forbidden, we continued with our relationship even though many were against it. When she graduated, we went public with our relationship. And even though we had a lot of hardships in our relationships, I decided to propose. It was our first anniversary when I proposed.]

Q: What did you do to prepare for the proposal?
At the same time, kaunti lang po yung time ko kasi may klase din po kasi ako that time.
[It was simple but it took me a while to prepare. At that time, she had a job and I didn’t have much free time because I had classes. So I thought about a way that was simple but would still surprise her.
I had a panda teddy bear bouquet made, wrote a letter, and made the prop with the paper money that said, ‘will you marry me’.]

Q: That’s sweet! Have you set a date for the wedding? What are your plans moving forward?
[Thank you! Actually, my fiance wants to finish college first before we get married and that’s what I want, too.]
We hope Dexter’s proposal inspires the gentlemen (and ladies if you’re the type!) out there to think outside the box when the time comes for their own proposals. Things don’t always have to be extravagant to be well received. Who knows? Your own proposal just might go viral as well! We wish Dexter and Emily nothing but happiness in their future.
