WATCH- This Upcoming Anime Has All the Magical Elements of Ghibli

When it comes to animated films, one of the trusted names is Studio Ghibli, a Japanese studio known for producing quality films. They have charmed audiences around the world with their films Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl’s Moving Castle. Now, a new Japanese studio is up, and their debut film has all the magic of Ghibli!

The studio is Studio Ponoc, and their new film is Mary and the Witch’s Flower. The film is about a young girl who discovers a rare flower, which lets her become a witch for one night. The story is based on the British book The Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart, but it has the vibe of Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and My Neighbor Totoro.

If it looks familiar, it’s because Ponoc is made up of people who used to work for Ghibli. In fact, Mary and the Witch’s Flower‘s director, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, also worked on Princess Mononoke, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Spirited Away, Mei and the Kitten Bus, Howl’s Moving Castle, Tales from Earthsea, Mizugumo Monmon, Ponyo, and From Up on Poppy Hill. He is also the director of Arietty and When Marnie Was There.

Mary and the Witch’s Flower is set to be released on July 8, 2017 in Japan.
