Quite some time has already passedย since the first state of the nation address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte, but many still smile (or smirk perhaps) when they recall the funny adlibs and antics of the President. Many memes about it have also gone viral and are still trending, in fact.
Topping our list is that moment when President Duterte stopped and shook the hands of former Justice Secretary, now Senator Leila de Lima, and then walked away with a silly expression on his face, which De Lima described as a “childish smirk”. The two exchanged some nasty words during the election campaign, so people were curious how they would act when they sawย each other and are thus amused with their personal exchange during the SONA.
And of course, who could forget the many times that the Presidentย went off-script and made some off-the-cuff comments and anecdotes about some of his Cabinet members (such as Environment Secretary Gina Lopez) that drew laughter, as well. And how he addressed the teleprompter operator many times and even asked him to skip the long paragraphs as he is getting tired of reading the speech.
But there are more! Thanks to the Office of the Presidential Communications, they have compiled all the light and funny moments during theย #DuterteSONA in one official video posted on their Facebook page. Ifย you need a good laugh or some positive vibes to start off the week, watch the video here:
