To commemorate Araw ng mga Bayani yesterday, August 31st, local network ABS-CBN released a station ID online that quickly garnered likes and support in the social media community. The video, which features a song titled “Tinig ng Nawalan,” shows a montage of clips of Filipino citizens amidst the current COVID crisis, as well as clips of their own former employees who lost their jobs because of the ABS-CBN shutdown. The song is performed by Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, and various former ABS-CBN employees.
ABS-CBN wrote on their social media caption:
Sa Pambansang Araw ng mga Bayani, Agosto 31,2020, ating kilalanin ang mga mamamayang nahihirapan, pero nananatiling matatag at mapagmalasakit. Sa mga kuwento ng kabiguan, nakatala rin ang pagkakaisa. Tayo-tayo ang ating maaasahan at matatakbuhan. Tayo ang #LingkodNgIsatIsa.
The video begins with snippets from emotional interviews with Pinoys voicing out their woes on the pains caused by the pandemic, including a frontliner. “Patay na sa gutom, di sa COVID,” reads one banner from an image taken on the streets of Manila. Then a message from ABS-CBN appears, which reads: “Matapos ipagkait ng kongreso ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN, maraming Pilipino ang hindi na naaabot ng aming paglilingkod.”

The station ID is powerful, to say the least, and definitely emotional especially to the fans and supporters of the network. The country’s largest network, ABS-CBN was forced to shut down after the congress denied them a renewal of their franchise, which caused a retrenchment of the network’s 11,000 employees.
