Buwan ng Wika comes once a year every August . That doesn’t mean, though, that the recognitionย for our native language should aslo come just once a year, too. Have you done your part to appreciate our language in a deeper level?
Don’t worry, though. You don’t have to dig through your Filipino books back in high school or do some intense throwback reading ofย Ibong Adarna and Florante at Laura. Lucky for you, there’s a Facebook page which “creates poems, essays,ย hugotsย and poetry videos that convey the thoughts and sentiments of Filipino masa millennials on love, work, family, and life in general,” as described by the creator himself, Rod Marmol.
Utot Catalog – “Hindi Kami Bagay, Tao Kami”The Facebook page is titledย UTOT CATALOGย and has been dubbed by some as the “Berlin-Artparasites of the Philippines,” or the “Francisco Baltazar of 2015.” Its follower count is close to 100k and its description is basically “Para sa mga bahong kinimkim nang matagal na panahon at ngayon ay handa nang ipaamoy sa mundo.”
“Iย am humbled by all the compliments, but more than anything what I want people to remember is the main objective of the page which is to propagate the use of “hugots” in enriching the Filipino language.” โRod Marmol
The page aspires to be a platformย which promulgates the Filipino language. Rod wishes toย send across the message that poetry is alive in every Filipino that is in love and hurting. Aside from Facebook, UTOT CATALOGย has also been translated into a book titled “Puro Ka Hugot, Ibaon Mo Muna” which is composed of various pieces written by the author and a few submissions from the page. Below are the top 5 that broke our hearts the most!
5. “Bawal tayo”
4. “Pag kinamusta ka ng nanay mo, ‘wag kang sasagot ng AYOS LANG.”
3. “Papakasalan kita.”
2. “Tuldok”
1. “Ang pinaka-gagong pwede mong gawin kung makikipag-break sa kasintahan ay ang โwag maging gago.”

Hi Oliber Blue, thank you for your honest opinion. I just hope that you really find time to read AND understand the works of Utot Catalog. The page believes that to convey a deep message, one does not need to use “pa-deep”, hifalutin words. You would know this if you read the article. Hindi kailangang mapalabok, o “makata” ang mga salita para maging malalim ang kwento. Dahil ang totoong lalim ay nasa mensahe, wala sa lengguwahe.
Also, as a fellow blogger/content creator, I am appaled by your lose usage of the word “corny” and the lack of contextualization thereof. Had you done that, this would have been a more productive conversation. ๐
corny… not even close to berlin art parasite’s pa-deep approach ๐
