Let the University of the Philippines (UP) Dance Company bring you back to the time when afternoons meant kicking off your shoes and taking to the streets with your childhood pals. Presenting โMga Munting Hirayaโ, a site-specific dance narrative based on an original childrenโs story about how a simple game of bahay-bahayan for four kids can turn into a turbulent journey of bravery and self-discovery. Running from December 4 and 5 at 7:00pm at the College of Music Annex Garden, โMga Munting Hirayaโ is a recital produced, directed and choreographed by 5th year dance majors, Deborah Lynn Afuang and Janine D. Salvania.
While the production is graced by performers and composers who are Dance and Music majors from the UP College of Music, the original libretto is written by a Creative Writing alumna of the Philippine High School for the Arts. Meanwhile, the light design and production processes are managed by students and mentors from the UP College of Arts and Letters. DZUP 1602 and WheninManila.com are the productionโs official media partners. Admission is free to all audience members.
More than a thrilling visual treat of forest fairies and magical monkeys, the production highlights the importance of role-playing street games, family, imagination, and the courage to face oneโs fears. โMga Munting Hirayaโ hopes to bring the magic of imagination to underprivileged children from orphanages and selected foundations by treating them to seats at the December 5 show.
We offer our hand in crossing between the real and the surreal: a play ground for those who are brave enough to imagine. Join us and discover how a childโs world just might be the nudge you need.
