Third Cup Cafe: A Cafe Junkie’s Sanctuary in Katipunan, Quezon City
When in Manila, with little to no time to have a day of relaxation alongside the hustle and bustle of school life, work life, or life in general, a cafe junkie may pleasantly find a sanctuary in a small, homey cafe hidden in the crevices of Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. Located on the ground floor of the J&R Concon Center, which faces the Golden Crescent Mansion beside McDonalds, is Third Cup Cafe: the ideal place to study, work, read a book, chat with friends or simply bum around and envelop one’s self in its cozy interiors, great tunes and delicious food.

Despite its small space, Third Cup Cafe has a wide variety of choices on their menu. From signature Coffee Classics and Coffee Frappes to Tea, Tea Lattes and Non Coffee Frappes, there are drink choices that cater to every kind of cafe goer (or cafe junkie, like myself).
Not only does Third Cup Cafe have plenty of drink choices on their menu, but they also have a pretty broad food selection to boot. It’s not everyday that you find your typical cafe to have Jalapeño Poppers Sandwiches, Mediterranean Pasta, Cinnamon Apple Pancakes and a couple of Breakfast Choices in one menu. Plus, they serve pastries to satisfy every cafe junkie‘s sweet tooth!
Personally, I found the use of different colored chalks on their menu visually appealing and exciting, which impelled my hunger further. The prices range from Php50.00 to Php170.00, which is not a bad deal at all, especially for the students around the area who are on a tight budget and who want to work and stay in a cafe for a long period of time.

I was able to taste Third Cup Cafe‘s Montecristo Sandwich and their Espresso Julep.
Espresso Julep, an iced drink from their Coffee Specials, was recommended by one of the owners of the cafe and is said to be a personal favorite of hers. This happened to be the same case for me once I took a sip of the delectable drink. Slightly minty and faintly woody, it’s the perfect drink to freshen up in the heat of Manila or simply to inspire you to get to work.
Their Montecristo Sandwich made of smoked pork ham and melted Swiss cheese was very tasty and filling, definitely giving you value for your money (its price happens to be the most expensive one on their menu). It’s a great item to order if you’re hungry and I am convinced that this would satisfy my hunger if I ate this while I was starving!
I was very satisfied with my meal and I stayed quite full for a couple of hours after eating, which is not so typical for a person like me who has a bottomless pit for a stomach.
Aside from their mouthwatering and appetizing food, what won me over was the ambience and the interiors of Third Cup Cafe.
With free WiFi and a slightly dim (but not bothersome) lighting, it has a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to working (unlike the mood of the more well-known cafes in Katipunan, Quezon City where it can get very crowded, noisy and counterproductive) and an enjoyable playlist with tunes from The Naked and Famous, MGMT, Temper Trap and Passion Pit, to name a few.
Brick wall interiors, comfortable chairs (which are a make or break deal for me when it comes to cafes), aesthetically pleasing typography on their glass walls, a few lovely paintings and frames of international tourist spots and a bookshelf filled with modern and classic literature is definitely the kind of place that I would call home.
