Thereโs a new restaurant thatโs getting a lot of attention among Filipino foodies and that is Steak & Frice, a steakhouse owned by the same restauranteur behind a mano and Ramen Ron, Amado Fores.
Steak & Frice, located at Central Square Mall in Bonifacio Global City, is all about providing a casual yet sophisticated environment for families, friends, and couples to enjoy quality steaks without imposing the same stuffy, lofty vibe as in fine-dining steakhouses.
Steak & Frice opened only in late December 2023 and yet customers have been filling up the seats and maxing out reservation slots every day. What makes this restaurant stand out that it has amassed such a crowd? It could be the cozy seats at the tables or at the bar that are conducive for long conversations with the people youโre with, or it could be the uniquely crafted cocktails you can get from the bar.
Who are we kidding, though? Of course, it would be the food!
Steak & Frice makes a statement about letting diners enjoy their steaks with rice and fries and Iโm not a prude to think ill of it. After all, the steak rice that each slab comes with is delicious and could honestly be eaten on its own while the fries are perfectly thin and crispy that youโll want to keep asking for more.
(And you can! Each steak order comes with one free refill of the steak rice and a side of fries.)
But what of the steaks themselves? We got the US Rib Eye (PHP 3,250/400 grams) and the S&F Wagyu Striploin (PHP 3,150/350 grams) which were the best-sellers. Each was served to us tender, juicy, and a perfect medium-rare and with our pick from a selection of sauces (we got Peppercorn, Steak Sauce, and Chimichurri).
The steaks were big enough to feed two (three even, if youโre like me who eats like a bird). The outer crust was great and the meat itself was rich and buttery, plus the finishing salt elevated its flavor even further. Personally, I like my steak slabs sliced more thinly but to each their own, of course. I also preferred the Striploin more than the Rib Eye for reasons I probably canโt put into better words than: itโs just that good.
The other food on the menu at Steak & Frice shouldnโt be missed either. I highly recommend getting the Bacon Steak Caesar Salad, Cheese Pimiento Puffs, Potato Souffle, and the best blooming onion Iโve ever had.
The desserts are just as fantastic to indulge in. I urge you not to leave without trying the Creme Brulee Cheesecake and the Triple Chocolate Cake & Marshmallow Fluff.
Our final verdict? Yes, Steak & Frice is worth it! High-quality steaks at a more affordable price point, plus the cozy vibe and a delectable menu of entrees, cocktails, and desserts, what more could you want?
Steak & Fries is open every day until 10 PM but currently closes midday between 3 PM to 5 PM. You can find them just beside Potterybarn at Central Square Mall.
