Sharon Cuneta has revealed to friends and followers the reason behind her feeling emotionally low lately which apparently had something to do with Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy’s upcoming comedy “Josep” that was just announced over the weekend.
In an Instagram Live session on Friday, May 28, Sharon shared that she had been given the opportunity to star in the project, to be produced by award-winning director Steven Spielberg, which will follow the story of a nurse trying to navigate life while pursuing romance, dealing with fatherhood, and living with his stubborn Filipino mother who ends up moving in with him. Sharon was supposed to take on the role of Jo Koy’s aunt.
“I was coming to Hollywood to do my first Hollywood film. Not for any platform, not for Netflix, but for cinematic release with premieres all over,” she told followers. She shared that she was ready to fly out to Los Angeles and to Canada for the shoot and was excited to share the great news. “I was so happy. Naka-pack na kami (We were already packed) and I was going to announce to you the very next day,” she said. However, she found out that the COVID-19 test she took had come back positive.
What broke her heart afterward was that every other test she took with other laboratories sent back a negative COVID-19 test result. But because the film’s production company couldn’t afford any more delays, Sharon had to let the opportunity go.
“Nawalan ako ng malaking oportunidad na โdi na mababalik sa akin. Kahit gusto nila Jo Koy at director na nandoon pa rin ako, wala silang choice [kundi] ituloy โyung movie,” she lamented. She also said that the whole situation made her feel “depressed” and that she couldn’t find it in her heart to forgive the laboratory that sent her the false-positive test result.

It was then that she decided to still push through with her flight to the United States. “Iโm going home. Of course my real home, where my heart is, is where my husband and children are. But tonight I am flying home to my Mommyโs Grampsโ country, where only my eldest and I are legal residents,” she wrote in an Instagram post last May 11.
“I need to breathe, collect myself, gain strength. Love you all and will miss you guys.”
She did not disclose then why she took that trip alone.
