It’s a sad day for Philippine Sports, but the community remains optimistic nonetheless.
An official statement was released by DLSU Sports this morning where it stated that “DLSU Alumna and Philippine Olympian Ian Lariba was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)”, as announced by her family on May 29.
The post also mentioned that she will undergo treatment this week.
Just last week, it was announced that the Filipino Olympian was in dire need of blood donors, according to CNN Philippines.
DLSU Sports also mentioned that to those who wish to offer financial assistance, they can send their donations to Mrs. Imelda N. Lariba through savings account in BDO (870-007-459) and UCPB (104120046272).
According to DLSU Sports, Lariba is a graduate of BS in Management of Financial Institutions. She has played for the DLSU Paddlers (the official table tennis team of the university) throughout her five year stay in La Salle. She also won Rookie of the Year in UAAP Season 74, bagged the Most Valuable Player title in Seasons 75, 77 and 78 and was also awarded as Athlete of the Year in Season 77 and 78. She also remained undefeated throughout her entire UAAP Career.
Yan is also noted for representing the Philippines at the recent 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Fans, supporters, close friends and kin have used the hashtag #KayaMoYan to show their support for the athlete.
Get well soon, Yan!
