It seems that Regine Tolentino inadvertently confirmed that Shay Mitchell indeed has Filipino roots after she shared an old picture she took with the “Pretty Little Liars” actress and confirmed that they were related.
This post comes after the Hollywood star claimed on her new show “Thirst With Shay Mitchell” that she is half-Spanish despite her mom being Filipino, causing ire among the Pinoy community.
“With my gorgeous cousin, [shaymitchell]. Fun fact: this pic was taken during her trip to Manila with her mom. We are second cousins,” Regine wrote on her post.
In the Instagram comments, Regine couldn’t help but reply to a follower who poked fun at Shay’s controversial statement and said: “You can’t be cousins. ‘Cause she’s Spanish.”
“Haha IKR! [laughing emoji]” Regine answered.
Her post on Instagram has been taken down, but the picture on her Facebook is still up.
Previously, Shay told a local newspaper that her mother hails from Pampanga. She also voiced Alexandra Trese in the English dub for the Filipino animated series “Trese” on Netflix.

Shay has yet to give a response on this issue.
