Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen is a Japan-grown brand that was first established in 1970. It arrived in the Philippines less than a decade ago, bringing a variety of authentic ramen flavors, gyoza, and katsu that will leave you wanting so much more.

They’ve got a number of branches all across the country. Wherever you might be in Metro Manila, there’s an Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen branch that you can easily visit.

Just this year, Ikkoryu opened their newest branch in SM Megamall! Now, their authentic Japanese treats are more accessible thanks to this new strategic location in the middle of the Metro.

Looking at their menu, it’s very compact and it’s easy to see the entirety of what they offer—and that’s a good thing! You can be assured that whatever dish you choose, it’s prepared fresh and with extra meticulosity.

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen offers eight varieties of authentic Japanese ramen with flavors that anyone and everyone can enjoy.

Authentic Ramen

The Ajitama Tonkotsu features a special half-boiled egg that is fully marinated with a specially blended soy sauce base. If you’re someone who loves that special egg in your ramen (like me!), this is definitely a treat. Of course, the broth is just as savory.

For stronger flavors, you’ve got to try the Tantan Tonkotsu. It offers an extra kick to the usual tonkotsu ramen thanks to the spicy zest, Ikkoryu’s special shoyu sauce, and chili oil.

It also features savory minced pork instead of the usual chashu, making every bite even meatier. This one’s sure to be loved by anyone who loves huge spoonfuls of everything in their meal.

Think that this ramen isn’t spicy enough? You’ll love the Spicy Tobanjan Tonkatsu! Its broth features spicy Tobanjan paste, and the ramen noodles are also hot and spicy. This is the perfect ramen choice for anyone who can’t get enough of spicy dishes.

If you want to try something different, go for the Black Garlic Tonkotsu. It features a black broth that looks quite intimidating at first, but it definitely offers something new for your tastebuds.

The Black Garlic Tonkotsu has soup mixed with special roast garlic oil. Make sure to slurp it down while it’s hot so that you can truly enjoy its unique flavor!

Katsu and Donburi Selections

While you may visit Ikkoryu for the ramen, you’ll definitely come back because of the other dishes on the menu—particularly their katsu.

Ikkoryu’s SM Megamall branch exclusively offers their Donburi and Katsu Selections.

The Garlic Katsu offers a more flavorful version of the meaty dish thanks to the minced garlic incorporated into every bite. If you love cheese on everything, you should try their equally mouthwatering Cheese Katsu which has melted cheese in the middle of every katsu slice.

Of course, you can also enjoy the Plain Katsu and Katsu Curry for a more familiar meal.

All of Ikkoryu’s katsu meals are cooked mille-feuille style, meaning that the katsu actually consists of layers of thin meat overlapped together. It’s a style of cooking from Japan that makes the meat extra tender, flavorful, and authentic.

Aside from the amazing flavors of their katsu, that meticulous style of cooking was really the factor that made us constantly gush about this particular meaty meal. It’s so tender that every bite melts in the mouth.

Ikkoryu’s katsu comes with delicious white rice, miso soup, cabbage salad, and of course the iconic katsu sauce.

Ikkoryu’s SM Megamall branch also offers a variety of donburi selections—all very filling and satisfying thanks to their massive serving. You can choose from crispy mixed seafood tempura, prawn tempura, gyu don, oyako don, and katsu don.

Their savory original gyoza is definitely a must-try. They’re so good that it won’t even be a surprise if you ordered another set just to take home.

Affordable Japanese Favorites

For a restaurant that seemed to transport us to Japan with every bite of their bestselling dishes, it was such a surprise to see that Ikkoryu was so much more affordable than most Japanese restaurants that offer the same level of food quality.
