Quincy Jones, the music legend behind Michael Jackson’s historic album Thriller and collaborations with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and countless recording artists, has passed away at the age of 91.
According to reports, his publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that he died at his home in Bel Air, California, while surrounded by his loved ones on November 3.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jonesโ passing,” the Jones family said in a statement.
“And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him,” they added. “He is truly one of a kind, and we will miss him dearly; we take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jonesโ heart will beat for eternity.”
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Jones is a renowned record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and film and television producer. Over his 70-year career, he has won 28 Grammy Awards from 80 nominations and received the Grammy Legend Award in 1992.
Known for his versatility across genres like jazz, pop, R&B, and film scores, the music titan produced Michael Jackson’s best-selling albums, such as Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987).
In 1985, Jones co-organized and produced the charity single We Are the World, featuring various music superstars and raising millions for famine relief in Africa. That same year, he debuted as a film producer with The Color Purple. His television contributions also include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Sanford and Son, cementing his legacy in both music and entertainment.
