The Philippines is going to the FIFA World Cup next year!
The country’s women’s football team bagged a highly coveted spot in the prestigious tournament after besting the team from Taiwan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup quarterfinals early Monday.

Both teams landed in a draw of 1-1 with the Philippines clinching the victory with a score of 4-3 on penalties. The match was held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune, India.
Goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel was able to keep their competitors at bay with her successful saves while Sarina Bolden scored the winning goal for the Philippines.
This will be the first time that the country will be represented in the World Cup which will take place in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
The team will then take on Korea in the Asian Cup semifinals this Thursday, February 3.
