When in Manila and youโre trying to stay sane because of the stressful week at work, thereโs nothing better than going to the cinemas and catching a feel-good flick like Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
ย
We were fortunate to be invited by the Lombosco Academyโand its partner, JCI Makatiโto catch the block screening of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters at the SM City Muntinlupa last August 7, in celebration of their 13th founding anniversary and to help out the the Don Bosco Boysโ Home in Liloan, Cebu. And it was a nice one-and-a-half hour-respite from the hectic week.
One of these passes is going to win us something.ย

More than a just movie screening
SM City Muntinlupaโs Cinema 3 was swarmed with parents and excited kids. At 4 p.m., the lines have already started and giddy students were running around, obviously very excited to see the movie. We were also eager to see Percyโs latest adventure, but it was still at least 1 hour before showtime, so we headed backstage to meet Lombosco Academyโs Directress, Luz E. Lombos, to talk about the organization in general.

I wondered why people were huddled together, so we peeked and saw yoyo master Cornel Bongco entertaining kids before the movie.
ย
It turns out, that this block screening is one of the many projects lined up to help unfortunate children in the country, particularly the street children, homeless, abandoned, rehabilitated children in conflict with the law, and economically poor children with dysfunctional families (or S.H.A.R.E.). The proceeds for this event will go to the young boys at Don Bosco in Cebu.

Reluctant nominee
Incidentally, Ms. Lombos, more fondly known as Luchie, was nominated for this yearโs Bayaning Filipino Awards. With all the work she, and the foundation, has done for less fortunate kids, the nomination is definitely not a surprise, though she says she’s a little shy about it.
With such a noble cause, itโs no wonder many have traveled a long way from the North to be a part of this event. The presence of lots of adults was noticeable during the screening, which just goes to show how many support the Academyโs mission in improving the lives of many children.
