The family-run company announced Robert’s passing across their social media pages.

“Although the sorrow is great, we also want to celebrate his life, the many wonderful accomplishments and causes he championed unselfishly,” it wrote.

It added: “He was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend. Robert was a vibrant, passionate spirit whose creativity, generosity, and warmth endure in the countless lives he has touched. As a co-founder of Papemelroti, his visionary spirit helped shape our brand into what it is today, bringing joy and inspiration to many.”

The popular gift shop reflected on the visionary’s life, recalling his passion for “designing, illustrating and creating for almost his whole life.”

The graphic artist, who took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines (UP), later shared his knowledge as a teacher, mentoring aspiring artists along the way.

Moreover, he had many creative endeavors throughout his life. He founded Ang Illustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK) in 1991, which is also the Philippines’ first and only organization of artists dedicated to children’s illustrations.

As an art advocate, he illustrated numerous books, designed graphics and murals, held art exhibits, and led multiple workshops locally and internationally.

He also became the host of the children’s show “Art is Kool,” where he showcased his artistic passions and shared that art is for everyone.

The artist also volunteered his illustrations for former vice president Leni Robredo’s 2022 presidential campaigns, which was recognized by Angat Buhay in a heartfelt post.

“His generosity knew no bounds, as demonstrated during the pandemic when he offered free online art workshops, bringing joy to countless children. Robert’s dedication to Angat Buhay’s mission and the communities he touched will remain an enduring legacy,” Angat Buhay wrote.

It added: “Thank you, Robert, for your incredible light and unwavering belief in the power of art to transform lives. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Robert was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016.

Despite the condition, he has continued furthering his craft by designing Papemelroti products. He eventually became the president of Papemelroti’s parent firm Korben Corporation from 2019 to 2024.

He has also initiated free workshops for kids through Facebook live during the pandemic.

“Through the art he has created with Papemelroti and renowned projects he was a part of, he will be far from forgotten,” Papemelroti wrote.
