Studio Ghibli fans are going to want to add this new art book to their collection!
Compiling around 844 background art from its entire library of theatrically-released animated films—from “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” (1984) to “The Boy and the Heron” (2023)—”Painting the Worlds of Studio Ghibli” practically immortalizes the beloved studio’s illustrations in one hefty hardbound book.
The art book also includes an interview with Yoji Takeshige who was among the original background artists for “My Neighbor Totoro” before becoming Studio Ghibli’s art director who worked on its most popular movies “Princess Mononoke,” “Spirited Away,” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

“Painting the Worlds of Studio Ghibli” is scheduled for release on January 22, 2025 and can be ordered on Amazon Japan and through the website of its publisher PIE International. It will be priced at 13,200 yen (Php 4,900). The English version will then be released on Amazon US on October 7, 2025.
