LOOK: Live-Action “Oshi no Ko” Series and Movie Are Coming—See the Cast Here!

Here’s something that anime fans didn’t see coming, at least not anytime soon: a live-action adaptation of the popular “Oshi no Ko” anime is already in the works and is scheduled for release by the end of the year.

To those who have yet to hear about “Oshi no Ko,” it is an ongoing manga with one season already out on Netflix which tells the story of a man who dies and gets reincarnated as the son of a famous Japanese idol, but then eventually becomes orphaned with his twin sister after their mother gets murdered by a crazed fan. Now a high schooler, it becomes his ultimate mission to uncover the identity of his mother’s killer.

The series aired in 2023 and became an instant hit, with its theme song “IDOL” performed by YOASOBI dominating music charts not only in Japan but across the world.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, for it to be adapted into a live-action series but no one could have predicted that it would come barely a year after the series premiere—not to mention that it already has a confirmed cast!

Playing the lead role of Aqua is Kaito Sakurai while Nagisa Saito, a member of idol unit =LOVE, will portray Aqua’s twin sister Ruby.

Asuka Saito, a founding member of Japanese idol group Nogizaka46, will play their mother Ai.

Nanoka Hara will portray Kana Arima, a child actress now struggling to become relevant again. Mizuki Kayashima will be the talented actress Akane Kurokawa who becomes Aqua’s onscreen love team partner, while Ano will be YouTuber and online influencer Mem-cho.

The live-action series is set to premiere by the end of 2024 exclusively on Prime Video while a separate movie will be released afterward in Japanese theaters. It’s unknown at this time what the movie will be about.
