“Oplan Balik-Ngiti” Addresses Dental Health Gap in the Philippines

Polident Philippines successfully conducted its “Oplan Balik-Ngiti,” a community outreach advocacy that has served over 2,000 Filipinos, at the Market! Market! Activity Center in Taguig City last April 11, 2025. The program offered free dental consultations and denture care education to Filipinos, helping restore their confident smiles.

The initiative addresses a significant dental health gap in the Philippines. According to a recent study commissioned by Polident, 83% of Filipinos who need dentures can’t afford them, 18% of Filipinos do not have access to a dentist, and 72% of employers indicated that missing teeth could affect their hiring choices, creating a cycle of economic disadvantage for those with dental problems.

A highlight of the event was the official sealing of partnership among Polident Philippines, the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), the Philippine Association of Registered Dental Technologists (PARDTI), and the trade partners from the leading drugstore retailers. Representatives from each organization were present, formalizing their commitment to improving denture accessibility and denture care education throughout the country.

โ€œOplan Balik-Ngitiโ€ transformed theย  Market! Market! Activity Center into a comprehensive dental care hub where participants experienced a full journey toward renewed confidence. Upon arrival, individuals were warmly welcomed and guided through registration before proceeding to individual assessment stations. Volunteer dentists from the Philippine Dental Association conducted thorough oral examinations.

Particularly impressive was the Polident education corner, which demonstrated proper denture care techniques using specialized products, ensuring participants could maintain their new dentures effectively. Many participants gathered around the demonstration station, where experts showcased proper adhesive application and cleaning routines essential for long-term denture health.

Looking ahead, Polident Philippinesโ€™ mission is to expand Oplan Balik-Ngiti to reach more communities nationwide. The denture care brand is determined to serve more Filipinos in need, bringing back lost smiles one community at a time. Additionally, Polident is constantly on the lookout for partnerships with companies and organizations to create pathways to economic opportunities for program participants, addressing both the health and socioeconomic aspects of dental care accessibility.
