NY Theraspine’s Myotherapy and Dry Needling Treatments : Better Than Spa Massage Treatments if You Want to Get Rid of Muscle Pain
ย
If you’ve been regularly going to spas and spending on massage therapies to hopefully get rid of your back pains, you may wanna think this over and ask yourself if you’ve been getting the results you want.
Please don’t get me wrong…. Nothing beats a relaxing aromatherapy massage after a stressful work week. I find it very relaxing and it helps me sleep well. I spend an average of P350-500 per session and I do it almost every week.
The problem is, I noticed that after a day or two, my back pains would re-occur and now-a-days, since I now spend an extra hour in commuting to work (terrible Edsa traffic), I’ve been experiencing more frequent back pains due to sitting for too long. Well, I thought the only way to alleviate it would be getting more massages but good thing, I was enlightened by Sir Pol Haboc, Head PT at NY Theraspine that there exists a much effective way to relieve my muscle pains.
Last week, I shared with you how my wrist strain was treated at NY Theraspine. I became an instant believer right after that experience so I didn’t have any second thoughts when Sir Pol and fellow PT Ms Ruth educated me on what causes my muscle pains and how to treat them more effectively.
During my recent visit at NY Theraspine, I gained more understanding on what was going on with my body. Ms Ruth told me about having too much lactic acid build-up in my muscles. In simple terms, the usual “Lamig” “Pasma” “Muscle Spasms” which causes pain are all actually just lactic acid deposits and that the most effective way to release these lactic acid deposits is through a series of Trigger Point Myotherapy and Dry Needling sessions.
ย
What is Myotherapy?
Myotherapy is a massage therapy that consists of alternating levels of concentrated pressure on the areas of muscle spasm. Pressure is applied with the fingers, knuckles, and/or elbow in ten to thirty second intervals to effectively alleviate the muscle spasm. Myotherapy works by relaxing the muscle in order to release stored lactic acid and encourage blood and oxygen circulation to the muscle to avoid the production of more lactic acid. The therapeutic pressure and massage typically produces initial soreness and “good pain” in muscle tissue.
Right after that short lecture, I was then referred to my Myotherapist Ms Kat. The session was quite similar with the regular massages I’ve experienced but this was more focused on trigger points and targeted areas which had lactic acid deposits.ย I never thought those painful spots were actually the ones with lactic acid deposits. What she did was, she applied enough pressure on those trigger spots and after a few minutes, the pain was gone because those lactic acid deposits were finally released!
I immediately felt relief! It was a “good kind of pain.” The session lasted for about and hour.
Since I wasn’t able to take photos during my Myotherapy session, I asked Head PT Sir Pol for a demo so I can show you how it’s done.

ย
After that successful Myotherapy session with Ms Kat, Ms Michelle, owner of NY Theraspine facilitated my Dry Needing session (P1,200/session).
As you know, our body is composed of layers of muscles, so you’ll need an effective way to reach those deep areas to effectively relieve pain.
ย
The purpose of Dry Needling is pretty much the same as the Trigger Point Myotherapy massage. The only difference is that, there is no massage involved in Dry Needling but rather the use of needles which came in various lengths to tap deeper underneath those muscles with stored lactic acid which cannot be reached through massage.
ย
ย
The needles where strategically placed in spots where lactic acid deposits were present. Once each needle has tapped the exact muscle with lactic acid build-up, it then triggered the immediate release of lactic acid resulting in instant relief.
ย
Ms Michelle treated my wrist problem with Dry Needling. I didn’t feel much pain at all when she inserted the needles. I did feel a bit of “sting” whenever she targeted those muscles with stored lactic acid, but the pain just disappeared after a few minutes!
ย
My Myotherapy session made me forget about going to my usual spa center because I really felt a huge difference. Though Myotherapy costs P800 per session, I believe that I’ll save more in the long run, since I’m sure that my pain is really being treated. Meaning, there’s no more need for me to frequently visit typical spa centers which only alleviate my pains for a short while.ย I still would love to have spa treatments though, but next time I do, it’ll be more on relaxation and pampering.
Myotherapy is way more effective so is therefore a better investment.ย And of course, it pays to get treatment from a trusted brand with a group of dedicated professionals like the people at NY Theraspine.
ย
To give you a recap on the costs, each Myotherapy session costs P800, while the Dry Needling is P1,200/session.

So when in Manila and suffering from back pains or any muscle pain, for best and immediate results, I highly recommend you visit NY Theraspine!
