We know, guys, we know:ย we’re all still reeling from the heartache after finding out that the new Mulan live-action remake won’t include any of the music from the original film. But brace yourselves, because there’s worse news.
Are you ready?
Hope you’re not drinking any sort of liquid at this point.
Okay, here goes: Captain Li Shang won’t be in the remake of the film.
That’s right, Mr. Swift-As-A-Coursing-River with a natural talent for military intelligence WON’T be in the live-action version of Mulan.
Do you hear that? That’s the sound of hearts breaking.
Director Niki Caro seems to be taking a lot of liberties with the project, announcing that this would be a “girly martial arts film”… whatever that means. First she takes away the music, THEN she takes away Li Shang, as in the dashing military captain who leads the platoon that will eventually squash the Huns?
Li Shang’s replacement doesn’t seem so right either. In his place will be Chen Honghui, a cocky new recruit who sees Mulan as his rival — until he discovers she’s a woman, in which he starts to fall for her.
Wait a hot second, why is Captain Li Shang being replaced by this dude in the new #Mulan. First no music, now this. Grrr pic.twitter.com/tE17hM1G7p

Does this new director NOT realize how central Li Shang is to the film? And how much we love him for memes?
Blech. Dishonor on your cow.
