Monash University, a global, research-intensive university based in Melbourne, Australia rose to the 42nd spot among the top universities globally in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
Soaring 15 places from last yearโs ranking, Monash Universityโs entry into the QS World University Rankings top 50 confirms its status as a leading international institution with a global network and diverse student and staff population and excellence in education and research.ย
For the fourth consecutive year, Monash achieved perfect scores in both the international students and international faculty categories. Monash University garnered an overall score of 78.2, an improvement from its 2023 score of 71.6 at 57th place. Monash also leaped 32 places in the citations per faculty category, exhibiting its continued dedication to education and research excellence.

The QS World University Ranking, established in 2004, has been a reliable source of comparative data about university performance worldwide. Its 20th edition underscores the value of sustainability, employability, and research collaboration, which are all highlighted in Monash Universityโs Impact 2030 strategic plan.
The universityโs Impact 2030 program addresses the most significant global challenges today such as climate change, geopolitical security, and thriving communities. The universityโs continuous success and growing community, which includes an increasing number of Filipinos, reflects the academeโs vision as showcased in itsย Impact 2030ย strategic plan.
Monash University, being the largest school in Australia, offers a wide range of courses across 10 faculties. These include Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Monash University currently hosts 144 Filipino students, with Filipino-led student organizations and scholarship programs.ย
The 2024 ranking validates Monash Universityโs spot in the top 50 across a broad range of subjects in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject. It also follows the universityโs achievement in the latest US News and World Report Best Global Universities Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where it placed 37th and 44th, respectively.
Australia is currently one of the top school destinations for approximately 50,000 Filipino students, according to global education consultant International Education Specialists (IDP) Philippines. Filipino students seek better quality education in other countries and show high interest in health and medicine, business, and engineering courses. Australia opened a lot of growth opportunities for Filipinos, including scholarship awards, and has attracted almost 16,000 Filipino students since 2022, according to IDPโ bi-annual survey.
The Philippinesโ Commission on Higher Education (CHED) continues to work closely with universities and colleges in the country to strengthen international relations for higher education for Filipinos. Several academic exchange programs for students, faculty, and school officials are currently in place and available for those interested to pursue higher education abroad.ย
