In a Facebook post, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Don Artes confirmed the road closure.

“Inanunsyo ng Department of Transportation ang pagsasara ng Mindanao Avenue hanggang Tandang Sora simula madaling araw ng Enero 12 para mabigyang daan ang konstruksyon ng Metro Manila Subway Project Phase 1 (The Department of Transportation has announced the closure of Mindanao Avenue to Tandang Sora starting in the early hours of January 12 to pave the way for the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project Phase 1),” Artes wrote.

He added: “Sa ibaba ng Mindanao Avenue ang konstruksyon ng Tandang Sora Station Box kaya kinakailangang mai-divert ang trapiko sa south at northbound. Ang road closure ay magtatagal hanggang 2028 (The construction of the Tandang Sora Station Box will take place beneath Mindanao Avenue, requiring traffic to be diverted for both southbound and northbound lanes. The road closure will last until 2028).”

The Tandang Sora Station is one of the 17 stations along the 33-kilometer subway. Notably, the underground drilling, which began in 2023, successfully reached the Quirino Highway Station last year.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stated that the construction is now 20% complete. Furthermore, the subway is expected to be fully operational by 2029.

Traffic is expected along the road in the upcoming weeks. With this, affected motorists are advised to plan and take alternative routes.

The DOTr assured that motorists would be guided through road signages and diversion roads that will serve as alternate routes.
