Great news came for Michelle Dee a week after the 72nd Miss Universe competition! On Friday, November 24, Miss Universe announced that Dee won the Best National Costume award with her gorgeous airplane-inspired costume. She garnered the highest vote in the Miss Universe app for Best National Costume.
“And the National Costume Winner is… Michelle Dee 🇵🇭! Chosen by the fans on our official Miss Universe app, Philippines is taking home the costume vote for this incredible outfit!” Miss Universe captioned its post.

Crafted by Filipino designer Michael Barassi, Dee’s national costume featured the colors of the Philippine flag and a mural of the country’s “most breathtaking sights” at the back, along with the Philippine tourism slogan #LoveThePhilippines.
Her airplane-inspired national costume, paired with an elegant captain’s hat, also gave a nod to her role as an Air Force reservist. According to the 2023 Miss Universe Philippines, each thread was woven into a “solihiya pattern,” an iconic design used in the tropics of the Philippines.

Aside from the Best National Costume award, she also won special awards at the competition, including the Spirit of Carnival Award, Miss Universe Fan Vote, and Voice for Change. Dee finished her Miss Universe stint in the top 10.
She is set to return to the Philippines on Saturday evening, November 25.
