30-year-old Mercedes Cabral is a veteran in the local indie film scene, yet she embarks on another milestone as the first Filipino actor to topbill a Danish movie, Rosita, about a Filipina mail-order bride sent to a small fishing village in Denmark.
Described by Variety as “a compelling humanist drama about a Filipino mail-order bride in a small Danish fishing village,”the movie centers on Rosita, who arrives in Denmark on a tourist visa, and moves in with Ulrik, who tests whether she is suitable as a wife.
According to local reports, Mercedes said:
“This film is really different from what I’ve done before. It’s very simple but it has an element of reality, which people can really relate to.
Emotionally it’s really heavy.”
