In an exclusive interview with MJ Felipe, Maki expressed his gratitude to be able to perform alongside LANY last weekend. He performed “Out Of My League” while Paul Klein played his hit song “Dilaw” on piano.

โ€œI tried to affirm myself that I deserve this stage, to be able to share this stage with LANY of course, sobrang kinailangan ko yung confidence kasi ang daming tao, ang daming cellphones, ang daming mata (I really needed the confidence because there’s a lot of people, a lot of phones, a lot of eyes watching me),” he said, adding that he still couldn’t grasp the idea that he was able to receive the opportunity to perform with the popular pop band.

โ€œItโ€™s such a full-circle moment for me, and itโ€™s something I will always remember until na tumagal-tagal na ako, tumanda na ako na (I become old as a) musician; itโ€™s something that I will always be proud of,” he added.

The rising P-pop star, who revealed that LANY has been one of his influences in music, was still in awe when Paul covered his song in front of over 50,000 concertgoers.

“It’s such a crazy feeling when you create something and you hear it na ibang tao yung gagawa at mag-iinterpret ng bagay na ginawa moโ€ฆ sobrang laking bagay niya sa akin kasi (being performed and interpreted by someone else.. It’s a big deal to me because) itโ€™s another interpretation of someone,” he shared.

He continued that giving your heart to everything that you do will eventually bring in more blessings and opportunities in life: โ€œItโ€™s so crazy to think that we all come together because of music. Yung dreams, yung goals natin in life, it all comes together kapag yung bagay na ginagawa mo is isinasapuso mo talaga (when you truly put your heart into what you do).โ€

The OPM hitmaker seemed to have one of the most memorable weekends of his life! His chart-topping song “Dilaw,” was also covered by emerging K-pop boy group ZEROBASEONE during their Manila concert last October 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

โ€œYung concert na ito is something that I will always treasure,” he said. “Tatandaan ko sa sarili ko na dapat galingan ko โ€˜to, ito yung first solo concert ko (I will remind myself that I have to give my best because this is my first solo concert) soย I need to express myself as a musician, as a singer.”

“We are preparing so many things you guys and I hope na magkita-kita tayo doon (we see each other) with a very, very excited heart,” the 24-year-old singer added.

Redefining the modern OPM music scene for his addictive music and charming visuals, Maki is best known for his songsย “Dilaw,” “Saan,” and “Namumula.”

He will be holding his sold-out solo shows as a musician on November 29 and 30 at the New Frontier Theater.
