It was a full house event at for an evening with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Tour 2016, which was recently held at The Palace Pool Club in BGC, Taguig where people partied to hits likeย Brad Pitt’s Cousin, Thrift Shop, and Downtown.
Not only is he a good rapper and writer, but he is also a good host and he’s funny, too. He talked about moving to Manila, staying for three months during the summer, and the first time he visited when he was 18. He also talked aboutย how his 99-year-old grandmother Facetimed him and complained thatย he didn’t bring her to Manila.
I find it refreshing listening to his style of rap and hip-hop. He has a unique diction and beat, speaks his mind, and has themes that aren’t dark whereas most raps today are about money, drug use, fame, guns and women.
By writing aboutย social issues, being optimistic, love, respect and humanity whichย can be heard in “Sameย Love”, “Light Tunnels”, “Wing$”, “Growing Up”, and even”Thrift shop”, and being backed up byย the genius of Ryan Lewis; it’s no surprise why this multi-platinum recording duo won the Grammys.
What was most important about their Manila tour, though, is that it was allย about havingย fun. From the beginning of their first song “Light Tunnels” toย jumping into the pool of The Palace Pool Club after the adrenaline-pumping performance of “Downtown” and the donut throwing, dance off, ย and the crowd surfing in between; Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, their crew and the audience were there to sweat, have fun, and party!
(If you are interested inย what they performed, here is the setlist:ย Light Tunnels / Ten Thousand Hours,ย Brad Pitt’s Cousin,ย Thrift Shop,ย Wing$,ย Same Love,ย White Privilege II,ย Let’s Eat,ย White Walls,ย Can’t Hold Us,ย And We Danced,ย Dance Off, andย Downtown.)
