When it comes to spicing up those late-night meals, hot sauce has been a go-to condiment for many years. From hot wings to pan pizzas, the familiarly addictive burn and taste of hot sauces have always found their way into many cultures. Luckily for us in the Metro, 19-year-old Kendale Lopez made Bask, his own hot sauce formula. Using fresh ingredients, Kendale’s homemade sauce is the perfect balance between sweet, spicy, and zesty that gives off a wonderfully refreshing spice into dishes.
Multiple bottles of hot sauce and many dishes later, we decided to interview sir Kendale in order to get some insight into how he developed his hot sauce.
Q: What got you into the hot sauce business at just 19 years of age?
A: From traveling to different countries and trying their local cuisines, I was exposed to the different flavors and taste a chili can offer. There’s a lot of different hot sauce varieties one can make, and that was what inspired me to make my own version to share with everyone. Being a chili lover myself, it is one of my dreams to make my own hot sauce.
Q: How did you develop the unique and addicting taste of Bask?
A: It took me a lot of time, research, and effort to finally reach the taste that I was looking for. Gathering the different suggestions of what people want to find in a hot sauce also helped me develop Bask hot sauce. I can say that every ingredient is crucial to get that perfect balance of taste. As a 19-year-old, this might be the hardest part, but it is also the most rewarding one.
Q: What are the benefits of using your hot sauce compared to other ready-made brands?
A: My sauce is unique compared to all the other ones available in the market because of its flavor. It is seldom you can find a hot sauce that has a very zesty flavor; you won’t expect it would go well with a lot of dishes, but it does. Bask hot sauce is also 100% homemade and has no added preservatives!
Q: What would you say are the best dishes to go with Bask’s zesty flavor?
A: Best dishes to be paired with Bask are: tacos, chicken, and any fried food. Based on our customers: adobo, seafood and nuggets are definitely worth a try too.
