There is a saying that small things, done repeatedly, can have a big impact. It’s supposed to be a feel-good quote about breaking down a large task into small, bite-size pieces, but it could also mean something negative. Especially when it is related to trash.
Trash, no matter how small, can have a large impact when left unguarded. Take a look at these pictures shared by Judy Go on Facebook. The photos are of a canal in the City of Manila, brimming with so much trash that you can barely see the water.
According to Judy:
Estero of Manila.ย Calling the government and the Manilenos:ย โชPleaseโฌ keep your environmentโชย clean.
Improper waste disposal can inflict a lot of damage on the environment. They can contaminate the soil and the air around them, and release chemicals that can build up in the ozone layer or contribute to climate change and global warming. If they are left in the water, it can threaten marine life and other animals that come into contact with it.
And all these can be stopped by properly disposing that plastic bag or that candy wrapper.
It may sound like it won’t do anything, but if thousands of Filipinos just hold on to their trash until they find a trash can, it will help a lot.
What else can we do to stop this? Share your thoughts below!
Stop the talking Manilla Government.
Action is needed and show the way with recycle where people can make money for depositing recycled glass, plastic bottles and trash.
They get rewarded with money for there effort to keep the waterways clean.
You need to show some incentive for people to change bad habits.
Clean up Days in the Philippines like other countries.
People’s health would improve with a cleaner environment.
When the rains come, and flush them to Manila Bay, they will end up on the beaches of Corregidor. Consider this: there is no technical problem preventing any plastic from being manufactured so as to break down in either UV light or salt water. Except that the manufacturers don’t want you to know this.
