The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is hitting us hard. The entire island of Luzon is now placed on enhanced community quarantine where:
- home quarantine is implemented in all households
- transportation is suspended
- provision for food and essential health services is regulated
- the presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures is heightened
When it comes to our frontliners (medical staff, policemen, military personnel, and other essential staff), their line of defense against the spread of this virus is wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). However, with the current situation, PPEs are depleting fast. In most cases, they are already unavailable.
So, a netizen shared how they were able to create their own protective gear — DIY face masks.
Clement Monreal shared this on Facebook.

DIY Face Shield.
Since there is no enough Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the medical staff to wear, we decided to do our own PPE-Face shield. Low cost but this will ensure the health and safety of both medical staff and the patient.
Face-Shield ready to be distributed.Materials needed:
Transparent PVC plastic sheet A4 size
Foam (1-inch think)
Velcro
Wires
Double-sided tape
Stapler
Ruler
Cutter
Scissors
Here’s a closer look at what they did.
However, with almost everything closed right now, it might be difficult to get these supplies. Still, those who have these like hardware stores or school supply stores can possibly do this or donate the supplies to those who really need it.
How about you? What recommendations do you have regarding DIY gears that can be used to protect ourselves in this crisis? Share them with us.
