If you’ve been to Japan recently, there’s no doubt that you braved the long lines just to eat gyukatsu (or at least considered to during your trip). Well, there’s no need to fly to Japan now just to try it!
SM Mall of Asia made an official announcement on its Facebook page that a branch of a popular gyukatsu restaurant called Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu is set to open within its shopping complex!
“Must-try melt-in-your-mouth beef cutlet chain from Kyoto is finally coming to the Philippines at SM MALL OF ASIA!!!” they wrote in their Facebook post. The mall also shared a picture of the spot with a tarpaulin confirming that it’s opening this July.
Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu brands itself as “the No.1 GYUKATSU Specialty Shop in Japan.” Gyukatsu, or “deep-fried beef cutlet,” has been a local food craze since 2017 but recently blew up among tourists thanks to viral Instagram reels and Tiktok videos. Gyukatsu is typically served with the meat still rare so you can cook it yourself on top of the hot stone plate to your desired doneness.
