Longganisa
You surely won’t want to miss breakfast again after you taste their Longganisa served with egg, salsa and yes, rice. Its garlicky taste is so familiar and yet so different that it will linger in your mouth.
Herb-crusted Dory Fillet
Also one of my favorites, the Herb-crusted Dory Fillet with lemon-butter cream sauce is one of the best fish fillets I’ve ever had. The fillet is good on its own, but becomes even better with the sauce.
Grilled Ribs
Their bestseller, the grilled-to-perfection ribs glazed with their special hickory BBQ sauce – it’s no wonder why it’s a hit. It’s R-I-B-S (capitals, people). It’s tender and full of flavor, and the blend of spices will send you to grilled ribs heaven. A plate can feed at least six people, so make sure to order more cups of their special yellow rice. Pair it with its buttered corn siding and feast on its lip-smacking goodness.
Beef and Egg
The fame of rice bowls also caught Katz Diner, thus their Beef & Egg rice bowl. Strips of beef belly with veggies, egg and rice make for a good meal for anytime of the day.
Bacon Chicken Steak
For the finale, we had the Bacon Chicken Steak. This mushroom gravy-smothered chicken fillet topped with bacon bits is bliss in every bite – the main reason why it’s winner in the students’ lists who frequent this diner. I found the bacon bits unique from others out there; they are what give this dish a nice twist.
Earl Grey, Oolong and Taro Hot Milk Teas
We were so full by the time we finished (who wouldn’t be?), so to calm our bursting bellies, we sipped on their hot milk teas in Earl Grey, Oolong and Taro. The cute pots are a pleasant sight, but once your lips touch the rim of your cup and the milk tea finds its way onto your taste buds, a feeling of pleasure and delight will envelop you! The taro milk tea is a standout, though; it is also Cathy’s personal favorite. I’m not a fan of taro, but try it and I bet you’re gonna order pot after pot of this (we finished three pots). Certainly a must-come-back-for!
Cake Duo with Fruit Medley
Once we were soothed and prepared to take on a sweet ending, the dessert platter arrived and I heard angels singing above my head! This Cake Duo with Fruit Medley is divine and sinful at the same time. The luscious Molten Lava Cake is oozing with chocolate filling; the Red Velvet Cake is rich and delicious, especially with the cream frosting; and the stewed fruits trickle with refreshing sweetness – the perfect cap-off to our Katz Diner food journey.

We also got first glimpse of this dish Katz Diner dish that is yet to be introduced: the Steak and Fries.
What’s commendable about Katz Diner is that Cathy, her family and their staff, are super hands-on in their business. They personally sit down and talk to their customers who they treat as family, completing the whole dining experience. They are also very good conversationalists. With their Broadway-inspired background music and wall art, it’s a nice start to endless exchange possibilities. Chatting with them feels like bonding with people you’ve known for a long time. What’s funny is we didn’t realize that it was already so late because we were having a blast! Never a dull moment, I know that every guest at Katz Diner will be treated the same.
Interesting fact: they have watched all of these Broadway musicals! Some of these posters even have autographs from its stars!
Our interview with the owners
As I’ve come to realize at the end of the day, there are two types of restaurants that people surely come back for: the first type is the type that serves really good food, and the second type is the type that provides excellent service to their customers. It’s nice to know that Katz Diner is both.
