Theย Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesย franchise has gotten too many reboots to count over the decades, including four different television series, a live-action movie trilogy, a CGI-animated film, andโconsidered the worst one of the bunchโthe Michael Bay-produced revival.
Now, one of the screenwriters of the much-loved 90s movie trilogy wants to go back to the old days of putting actors inside giant turtle costumes to do martial arts with a possible reboot.
Bobby Herbeck told ComicBook.com that he’s currently in talks with the director of the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Steve Barron, as well as Brian Henson, the son of Muppets creator Jim Henson whose Creature Shop developed the original turtle suits, about creating another film like the one they did.
“We’re trying to make that happen. We want to do a reboot. We got our fans come to us on Instagram, they’re, ‘Why don’t you guys do a reboot of the first movie?’ We’d love to do it,” Herbeck said in the interview.
He also mentioned that a big motivator for them to make it happen is their interest in seeing how the Henson Creature Shop can bring these larger-than-life turtles to reality using the technology they have now.
“Imagine if Brian Henson had access to the technology he does today to make these costumes and all that. I think it would be amazing. A reboot like that I think would really get people’s juices flowing,” he shared.
It seems all they need to make this reboot come true is a movie studio that will pay them to create it. However, it might not happen sometime soon, especially when Seth Rogen is already tasked with making a new CG-animated film like 2007’s TMNTย together withย Gravity Fallsย director Jeff Rowe andย Neighbors: Sorority Risingย writer Brendan OโBrien.
