Melai Cantiveros really shined bright at the star-studded Asia Artist Awards 2023! The comedienneโs wit and humor effortlessly brought laughter to Filipinos, including South Korean artists. No wonder why she trended under the K-pop category on X, formerly Twitter.
From the red carpet, the netizens were already laughing out loud because of her funny poses in front of the cameras, not to mention Ryan Bangโs humorous side comments that added good vibes to the event!

In a quick interview during the awards show, IVEโs Jan Won-young, who was among the hosts, asked the actress-TV host how she felt about attending the prestigious event. Hereโs her answer:
โAttending to AAA is a very honor. I feel like I am the first honor, a valedictorian in attending AAA. It’s so the best, prestigious award. I cannot believe this is happening.โ [sic]
Won-young asked another question, โThere are many artists representing Asia here today. Is there any particular artist you really would like to meet?
Melai answered Kim Seon-ho and NewJeans, โI’m so very idol Kim Seon-ho and then NewJeans because my daughter loves NewJeans.โ [sic]

Prior to her interview, she was spotted on the screen giggling in the background of Seon-hoโs interview, which drew laughter and cheers from the audience. *Who wouldnโt feelย kiligย over Seon-ho?! Same, Melai, same.*
Another funny Melai moment was during her acceptance speech as she received the Best Actor award alongside Kim Se-jeong, Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Dong-hwi, and Lee Jun-hyuk. These are the hilarious lines that made everyone laugh:
โIf someone question[s] why I have [an] award, don’t worry, I question, [it] too.โ
โI just received [an] award all of my life from my mother and father every time they are angry to me.โย
โMy heart is very kuan…the best.โ
โGod moves in mysterious ways.โ
โI cannot believe what the food that they eat, why they chose me.โ
โIโm very sorry to the Koreans I acted like this, but I am so overwhelmed.โ
โTo my family, we will serve the Lord.โ
The Philippine Arena was filled with laughter and “Melai” chants. P-pop supergroup SB19 was also cheering for the comedienne! Some South Korean artists spotted laughing and chanting during her speech were Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN BSS, NMIXX, and Lapillusโ Chanty, whoโs also a Filipina.
On Facebook she shared photos of her award and with K-drama celebrities Kim Young-dae and Moon Sang-min with the caption, โLord.โ
Melai recently starred in a Philippine-South Korean action-comedy filmย Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul, which was released in November.
