Although the Asia Artist Awards (AAA) 2023 ended a few days ago, many Hallyu fans are still on cloud nine after witnessing one of South Korea’s biggest awards ceremonies in the Philippines.
This prestigious and historic event was indeed a dream come true for every Filipino Hallyu fan, whether they watched online or offline, as they got the chance to see their favorite K-pop artists and K-drama stars up close on the red carpet, perform, and interact with each other. It’s also a memorable experience to support them in receiving their respective awards in person!
Aside from their stunning red carpet looks, these special moments from the awards ceremony will definitely give you a major PCD (post-concert depression)!
Here are the highlights of the AAA 2023 awards ceremony or main show!
Let’s start with our very own talented artists and actors who brought pride to the country. P-pop supergroup SB19 delivered an electrifying “Gento” performance alongside &TEAM. They snagged two awards: Hot Trend Award and Best Artist Award (Singer Category).
South Korea-based Filipino boy group Hori7on also proved what they got! They were among the recipients of the Focus Award.
Meanwhile, renowned OPM band Ben&Ben received the Best Choice Award. “Pipiliin namin kayo araw-araw [We will choose you everyday],” they said during their acceptance speech.
Of course, two of the most popular Filipino stars, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, made the Filipinos proud as they received the Fabulous Award. Bernardo expressed her gratitude to Filipinos for supporting local series and movies.ย
Melai Cantiveros was the star of the AAA 2023! Her humorous acceptance speech when she received her Best Actor Award was the highlight of the event, which even trended on social media!
NewJeans didn’t only leave the audience in awe with their charm during their first-ever visit to the Philippines! The girl group showed off their superb talents as they performed their hits “OMG,” “ETA,” and “Super Shy.” They received numerous awards, including two grand prizes: Song of the Year (Ditto) and Singer of the Year.
Lapillus’ Chanty, who’s a Filipino-Argentinian, gained cheers from the audience when she delivered her acceptance speech in Tagalog. “Masayang-masaya po kami at nagpapasalamat sa opportunity na maka-attend po ulit sa AAA lalong-lalo na dahil dito po ginanap sa Pilipinas [We’re very happy and thankful for the opportunity to attend AAA, especially it was held in the Philippines],” she said. The girl group won the Potential Award.
EXOโs Suho reflected on his challenges when he accepted his Best Emotive and Best Acting Performance awards, “From now, Iโll continuously stay stable like how I was till now so I can move your emotions. Iโll continuously act and sing well and live well so I wonโt be an embarrassing idol.”
It was a special moment for Jung Sung-il, who won his first-ever award, the Scene Stealer Award. He rose to fame as Ha Do-yeong in The Glory. “I think the reason why I received an award so late is because there are so many amazing artists,” he emphasized.
Lee Dong-hwi, known for his role inย Reply 1988ย andย Extreme Job, won the Best Actor Award. He shared his memories in the Philippines, “Philippines is like a hometown for me. We shot the casino dramaย Big Betย for around two months here in the Philippines. I am very grateful to all heartwarming Filipinos. If not because of you, thereโs no casino K-drama.โย
LE SSERAFIM, The Boyz, and ITZY also got the crowd dancing with their captivating performances!ย
Hallyu fans became wilder with Lee Young-ji’s powerful performance! She received the Best Choice Award.
The Grand Prize Stage of the Year and Fabulous Award recipient, Stray Kids, set the AAA stage on fire with their astounding performance of “Maniac,” “Topline,” and “Lalalala.” During their acceptance speech, the group promised their fans to look forward to their โnew versionโ in 2024.
Closing the star-studded event was SEVENTEEN’s BSS! The trio turned the awards ceremony into a party with their “Fighting” performance with Lee Young-ji. Almost all the K-pop artists and celebrities were dancing and singing along!
Other artists, including STAYC, KARD, KINGDOM, AKMU, ATBO, DINDIN, Kim Jae-joong, LUN8, Paul Blanco, Yaochen, Ash Island, Dreamcatcher, NMIXX, TEMPEST, Sakurazaka46, Kep1er, Kwon Eun-bi, ONEUS, BOYNEXTDOOR, Kang Daniel, Lim Young-woong, ZEROBASEONE, and more also performed at the AAA main show.ย
