In 2016, Hidilyn Diaz made history for the Philippines by securing a silver medal in the women’s 53-kg weightlifting division of the 2016 Summer Games at the Rio Olympics. Besides bringing home the first Olympic medal of the Philippines in 20 years, Diaz is also the first Pinay athlete to win one.

Last year, she took home the Philippines’ first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. In the women’s 53-kilograms event at Jakarta International Expo Hall A in Indonesia, Diaz bested 11 competitors including fellow Filipina Dessa Delos Santos.

This year, Diaz bagged a silver medal in the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships even after moving up to the 55kg class after her weight category was removed.

On Friday night in Pattaya, Thailand, the Olympic medalist wins more medals for the Philippines finishing with two bronzes in the International Weightlifting Federation World (IWF) Championships.

Her third-place finish means that Diaz remains to be the best source of honor in the Philippines’ campaign in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games. Meanwhile, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her on her Twitter account.

The national weightlifters who represented the Philippines in the IWF Cup are also headed by Diaz, alongside Olympian Nestor Colonia.
