In the latest episode of Heart World, Heart opened up about how her parents—Rey and Cecilia Ongpauco, both businesspeople—raised her, revealing that she has to work hard to be deserving of the success and opportunities that come her way.

“Don’t get me wrong, ina-acknowledge ko talaga ‘yung idea na pinanganak akong privileged pero siyempre dinidisiplina din kami (I fully acknowledge the idea that I was born privileged, but of course, we were disciplined as well),” she said.

She continued:  “Spoiled kami in a sense na lahat binibigay sa amin pero talagang sobrang thankful ako na ‘yung tatay ko magaling din siyang mag-disiplina (We were spoiled in the sense that everything was given to us, but I’m truly thankful that my dad was also very good at disciplining us.”

The 39-year-old host and actress emphasized the importance of being grateful and how continuous hard work and perseverance make one appreciate the fruits of their labor.

“Kailangan maging thankful ka kung anong mayroon ka. Kailangan hardworking ka. Iyon ang dala-dala ko, na kung may gusto ka, kailangang pagtrabahuan mo ‘yon. Kailangan ‘yung talagang alam mo na deserve mo bago mo siya makuha (You need to be thankful for what you have; You need to be hardworking. That’s what I carry with me—if you want something, you have to work for it. You have to truly know that you deserve it before you get it),” she shared.

The global fashion icon also shared the importance of having your own personal space as she toured her fans to her cozy apartment in Paris: “Thankful ako na maganda yung life ko (my life is good) and everything, but it’s not the same story for a lot of women out there.”

“Ayun ‘yung turo sa akin ng daddy ko and tsaka ng nanay ko na kailangan talagang maka-pundar ka ng sarili mong lugar para ano mang mangyari, meron kang pupuntahan. Kapag talagang tyinaga mo, makukuha mo (That’s what my dad and mom taught me—that you really need to save up to have your own place so that no matter what happens, you have somewhere to go. If you really work hard for it, you’ll get it),” she added.

Heart World, which premiered on October 26, is Heart’s new reality show offering a glimpse into her life as a fashion week regular and the life lessons she’s picked up along the way.
