Guys, You Really Should Add LEGOLAND Malaysia to Your Travel Bucket List

We usually think of LEGO as a children’s toy, one that we have outgrown as soon as we hit our teenage years and adulthood. That’s certainly what I feel. Sure, I’d look at LEGO displays when I see them and I’ve watched some of the movies, but that all changed when I visited LEGOLAND Malaysia.

It offers more than just a theme park. There are 70 hands-on rides, slides, shows, and attractions offering adventure, education, and fun. It’s best enjoyed if you’re a family with children aged two to 12, but no one’s stopping you if you’re a barkada!

The best part? It’s a theme park, a hotel, a water park, and an aquarium. There’s certainly something for everyone.

Here are some of the things you can check out when you’re there:

LEGOLAND Malaysia

LEGOLAND Malaysia is the size of 50 full-size football pitches and has 15,000 LEGO models using 60 million LEGO bricks.

LEGOLAND is divided into different sections, each reflecting a unique world. There’s the Kingdom, set in the medieval world. Think Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. In fact, this is the only part of the entire theme park where you can buy Harry Potter-themed LEGO merch. There’s also the Ninjago, which features, you guessed it, the deadly (yet cute) assassins. There’s the Land of Adventure, which highlights the forgotten world of Pharaohs and dinosaurs. There’s also a section dedicated to Star Wars and another featuring everything sci-fi, called the LEGO Mindstorms. This one is perfect for those who like to experiment with robots!

It even comes with awesome rides perfect for both kids and adults. There’s the LEGO City 4D: Officer in Pursuit, a new attraction set in the LEGO City Universe. If you want something more fast-paced, the Great LEGO Race combines roller-coaster thrills with virtual reality. Our favorite is Ninjago: The Ride, where you can play a ninja and defeat all sorts of enemies in a 4D ride.

There are also traditional rides, like the Dragon rollercoaster (and the Dragon’s Apprentice for younger kids), the multi-level playground called the Forestman’s Hideout, and a high-speed carousel called the Merlin’s Challenge.

If you want to buy merch, there are tons of stores within LEGOLAND but we advise you to check out The Big Shop near the entrance. It’s the biggest LEGO store in the whole of Southeast Asia.

Miniland

One of the highlights of the trip is Miniland, a miniature version of Asia’s iconic landmarks. This part alone consists of 30 million LEGO bricks, featuring smaller (but still larger-than-life) versions of attractions from 17 Asian countries. These include the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Merlion in Singapore, and the Taj Mahal in India. There’s even a cute MINILAND version of Bolinao.

According to the description, “The beauty of Bolinao, a thriving fishing town on the coast of Luzon Island in the Philippines, makes it a popular tourist attraction. Within the town centre is the Church of St. James the Great, built in 1609, and Bolinao offers scenic beaches and waterways with colourful fishing boats.”

Star Wars fans will love the dedicated Miniland showcasing seven scenes from six films, including The Clone Wars. Fun fact: this section took almost 8,000 man-hours and 1.5 million bricks to complete 1,122 models. The most challenging to build is the Millennium Falcon, which took 143 hours and 15,000 bricks.

It’s fun to explore on your own, but if you want a guided tour, a guest experience officer can give you a 20-30 minute tour from Friday to Sunday. The meeting point is at the Singapore Cluster.

LEGOLAND Hotel

The theme park has its own hotel and it has an awesome LEGO theme. The hotel has interactive LEGO features, a LEGO designed lobby, and themed rooms.

The fun starts when you check in at the lobby. There’s a knight’s castle, a pirate’s ship, and a play area that kids (and even adults) can play in while someone checks the family or the barkada in. It’s tempting to jump into the pool of 100,000 LEGO bricks! Make sure to also check out the display behind the check-in desk, where you can find 12,528 LEGO minifigures.

As for the rooms, there’s a Ninja Room, a Pirate Room, an Adventure Room, and a Kingdom Room. Watch out for the elevator that plays The LEGO Movie’s “Everything is Awesome,” complete with strobe lights. Going up and down is always a party.

There are tons of dining options in the hotel, which means it’s possible to never have to go out. Choose between the Bricks Family Restaurant, Kai’s Sushi Bar, and the Di Mattoni Restaurant. You can also get snacks at the Coffee@Bricks deli.

It’s within walking distance from the theme park, the Water Park, and SEA LIFE so it’s best to book a room if you want to make the most out of your trip.

Water Park

The Water Park in LEGOLAND Malaysia is the largest LEGOLAND Water Park in the world. Our favorite is the Build-a-Raft River, where you can customize your own raft using giant soft LEGO bricks, which you can use to float on a lazy river. There’s also the Joker Soaker, a wade pool where kids can use water cannons. Watch out for the giant bucket that will pour 350 gallons of water! It’s the perfect way to cool down after a day of exploring LEGOLAND.

There are more than 20 slides to choose from, which is definitely fun when it’s summer. Of course, because it’s in LEGOLAND, you can find over 70 LEGO models!

SEA LIFE

The latest attraction in LEGOLAND Malaysia is SEA LIFE, an up-close ocean experience with hands-on encounters and interactive displays. There are more than 25 display tanks and 11 habitat zones, featuring 13,000 sea creatures from 120 species. You can find dedicated tanks for jellyfish, stingrays, seahorses, and all types of exotic fish. To make it educational, there are interactive elements in every habitat zone.

It’s a fun way to learn more about marine biodiversity, since there are LEGO mini-figures and LEGO sea creatures scattered around. Our favorite part is the 18-degree Ocean Tunnel, the largest tank where you can see all sorts of underwater creatures, including sharks like the black tip reef shark and the zebra shark!

When you’re here, make sure to check out the Behind the Scenes Tour, where you can see how the theme park is taking care of all the creatures. Unique to this theme park is the Malaysian Rainforest section. It pays tribute to the world’s oldest rainforest.
