Greenbelt 1 was co-developed and designed by national artist for architecture Leandro Locsin. It opened to the public on 1982 and, at the point before it closed, housed fast food chains such as Tokyo Tokyo, Wendy’s, Jollibee, and Bonchon, casual dining restaurants like David’s Tea House, Razon’s, and Chicken Bacolod, gaming and tech shops like Datablitz, assorted repair shops, money changers, and The Spa.
A source told Philippine Daily Inquirer last July 2023 that the revamped area will include more shops, green spaces, offices, and newer movie theaters. A new hotel will also reportedly be built where the outdoor steel parking area and the McDonald’s across Asian Institute of Management were located.
