Gerald Anderson has been promoted to auxiliary captain in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA)!
The oath-taking ceremony, which took at the BRP Teresa Magbanua, was presided over by PCG commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan and Sen. Robin Padilla.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Anderson said he was thankful for the recognition: โItโs always good to be here with the Philippine Coast Guard, nakapagbigay tayo ng high morale sa kanila, pinaparamdam natin sa kanila na we appreciate them (Weโre able to boost their morale, making them feel that we appreciate them).โ
The 35-year-old actor discussed his plans to improve the efficiency search and rescue missions during calamities.
He previously went viral when he helped rescue a family stranded during Super Typhoon Carina. The actor braved the heavy flood and utilized an inflatable pool for rescue efforts.
โThatโs the goal: to have a search and rescue team na mas (that is) equipped and ready. Kung baga, kung nakita niyo nun sa video nung Typhoon Carina, gamit ko is inflatable pool kasi yun lang meron kami nung time na yun (You see, in the video from Typhoon Carina, I was using an inflatable pool because that was all we had at the time),โ he added.
His girlfriend, Julia Barretto, was present during the oath-taking ceremony. The actress shared a photo on her Instagram Story to celebrate his milestone.
In addition to his rescue efforts during Super Typhoon Carina, Anderson also called for donations to assist those affected by Typhoon Kristine.
For his consistent involvement in rescue operations and relief efforts, the actor was awarded the โSearch and Rescue Medalโ from the PCG in August.
Anderson has been an active member of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliaryโs (PCGA) K9 Special Support Squadron since 2016. In 2021, he was promoted to Auxiliary Commander.
