10 Filipino Movies to Watch Out For This 2021

2021 is looking to be a great year for local cinema, thanks to all the Filipino films lined up for premiere! Here are 10 of them that we can’t wait to watch:

10. Hello, Stranger

Following the success of the online BL series of the same name directed by Petersen Vargas, “Hello, Stranger” is producing a full-length film sequel with its main actors, Tony Labrusca and JC Alcantara, reprising their roles! Black Sheep Productions also confirmed that they are moving past the computer screen and meeting up live, so we can’t wait for the real-life kilig.

9. Keys to the Hearts

Joshua Garcia, Zaijian Jaranilla, and Charo Santos are all set to star in a local adaptation of the South Korean comedy-drama of the same title, to be helmed by โ€œExes Baggageโ€ and โ€œAlways Be My Maybeโ€ director Dan Villegas. The story will follow a boxing has-been who reunites with his mother, who abandoned him as a child, and his younger brother who has autism and is a child prodigy.

8. The Faroe Way Land

Paolo Contis and Yen Santos are starring in this upcoming film set in the Faroe Islands located between Iceland and Norway. Details about the movie have yet to be revealed, but the two actors have already shared tons of breathtaking photos taken during filming on their Instagram accounts.

7. Dito at Doon

“I’m Drunk, I Love You” director JP Habac is set to break our hearts once more with a new film titled “Dito at Doon” starring Janine Gutierrez and JC Santos. It’s unknown what the film will be about, but Direk JP only has this to say: “Pakihanda po ang mga puso.”

6. Walang KaParis

“Kita Kita” stars Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez are reuniting for a new film titled “Walang KaParis,” helmed by the same director who brought to us the heart-wrenching indie movie the two made in Sapporo, Japan. Alessandra first teased the movie last December 15 with a photo of the script and another with her costar and love team partner. “Walang kapalit. Soooo…ako nalang ulit!” she said at the time.

She, Empoy, and Director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo have since been sharing behind-the-scenes pictures from their shooting.

5. Soul Sistahs

Real-life soul sisters and “Magandang Buhay” hosts Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros, and Jolina Magdangal will be starring in their first film together titled “Soul Sistahs,” as revealed in ABS-CBN Network’s Together As One sa 2021 trailer. Knowing these three, it’s definitely going to be a wild and hilarious ride!

4. Tenement 66

From the same director who helmed “Babae at Baril” comes a new thriller called “Tenement 66” starring young actress Francine Diaz. In a teaser shared on New Year’s Eve, the film follows Francine’s character Lea convincing her neighbors, played by Francis Magundayao and Noel Comia, Jr., to break into the apartment of a man she witnessed stealing. However, they are caught not long after and leads to bloody altercations and Lea being held hostage.

3. Love or Money

Angelica Panganiban and Coco Martin are starring in a new film titled “Love or Money” to be directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar. The movie was supposed to be released on Valentine’s Day last year but was pushed back. This will be the first time the two will star in a film together, and we can expect tons of drama, kilig moments, and laughter.

2. Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan

Supposedly an entry to the recently held Metro Manila Film Festival, “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan” is a horror film based on a book of the same name written by Bob Ong. It is set to star Joshua Garcia and Angie Ferro and will be produced by Regal Entertainment under the direction of Chito Roรฑo (“Feng Shui,” “Sukob”).

The story of “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan” is told through the journal entries written by a student, Galo, residing in Manila who returns home to the province where he was raised by his grandmother, Susan, after learning she is ill. But as Galo cares for his ailing grandmother, he uncovers various mysteries and horrors that eventually makes him question his sanity.

The one film everyone is excited for the most is probably John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo’s reunion project with Cathy Garcia Molina, who directed their iconic movie “One More Chance.” Last October, it was revealed that it was supposed. tobe filmed in Florence, Italy but had to change plans due to the ongoing pandemic. No updates yet on what it will be about, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled!
