They say teachers are our second parents, and this young surgeonย from Cebu took that to heart when he met his favorite teacher in the hospital.
Virginia Padilla Roble shared on Facebook how she checked out of the Perpetual Succour Hospital and was surprised to see a different kind of note from the nurse’s station. The note, signed by her orthopedic surgeon Dilbert Monicit, simply says: “Dear Ma’am Roble, professional fee = paid 22 years ago (one of my favorite teachers!)”
In the comments section, friends of Dr. Monicit noted his kindness. One even mentioned how the doctor did not charge her for the professional fee during the checkup and the follow-up consultation of her son.
Friends also notedย Roble’s positive influence on her students. One said that she met the mayor of Mandaue and he said that he is where he is today because of her mentorship.

this is something different. my father worked at pgh and he was assigned in the dormitory where he looked after doctors needs. he was hospitalized and died at manila doctors. his dr by the name of dr chua (i forgot his 1st name, who is a neurologist) did not charge him any single cent since the beginning till the end of his life. i remember when i accompanied my father in his outpatient appt clinic with dr chua, this is what he said “it’s my turn to look after tatay fred”. many thanks to you sir and wherever you are, our family will always be grateful to the service you did to our father who is in heaven now
I also experienced the same generosity from a former student who is now a medical doctor, Dr. Chessed Abrigo-Castillo (anesthesiologist), when I underwent a curettage procedure a few years back. She waived her professional fee. I insisted to pay but she said it is her way of thanking me for mentoring her in technical writing. She also said that… well, am supposed to be her favorite teacher.:)
