Did Liam Payne Just Imply that Zayn Malik *Won’t* Be Joining the One Direction Reunion?

With beloved boy band One Direction’s 10th year anniversary only months away, the internet has been abuzz with talk about the group planning a much-awaited reunion soon—a rumor that was seemingly confirmed by member Liam Payne in an interview with The Sun.

“At the moment I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say. There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around,” Liam had said in the interview. “But more than anything, it’s just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”

One Direction is Reportedly Breaking Up

On Sunday afternoon, Liam once again opened up about the rumored reunion during an Instagram Live session with Swedish DJ Alesso. They had been discussing their new song collab, “Midnight,” with fans when the chat started exploding with questions about One Direction.

“Oh my god dude… there’s so many One Direction questions,” Alesso told Liam during their chat. “But I feel like I don’t want to put you on the spot because I know you can’t say too much.”

Liam then went on to say that he has been FaceTiming with Niall Horan recently and that the two have “been trying to arrange the first group FaceTime with the boys at the moment.”

But, he adds: “I can’t say too much. Louis [Tomlinson] told me off for revealing a bit of our plans the other day, so you’re going to have the group chat telling me off.”

Unfortunately, while this means that a reunion is definitely happening, it’s still unclear whether Zayn Malik will be joining it especially since Liam has yet to bring up his name in conversations and interviews about it. One thing’s for sure though: if it’s a music comeback the group is preparing for, Zayn is still out of the equation.

“You can come in and fill in for Zayn and join the band,” Liam told Alesso during their Live session.

Zayn quit One Direction in 2015. According to a report by MailOnline, members Liam, Niall, Louis, and Harry Styles have recently re-followed Zayn on Twitter.
