Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu has assured President Rodrigo Duterte that the Philippines will not be undergoing any water shortages this 2020. This assurance comes as the dry season rapidly approaches.
(Do We Really Need The Kaliwa Dam?)
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo revealed that the government is paying close attention to the matter of our water supply. According to him, the government’s outlook and action plan in preparation for summer was one of the priorities during Monday night’s cabinet meeting in Malacañang.
Panelo stated that DENR Secretary Climatu recently visited the Angat Dam in Bulacan to ascertain the water level. He said that Cimatu specifically “assured the President that we will have enough water for the year.”
The government is keen to avoid a repeat of last year’s water shortage, where the country experienced the worst water crisis they had in years during the month of March. Water interruptions lasted for days while people were forced to wait for their daily water supply from tanker trucks.
