It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to watch our favorite anime series this year.
The entertainment industry is among those hard-hit by the growing spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with the production of shows and movies being halted and scheduled releases being pushed back. This includes the production and broadcast of anime shows on Japanese television.
Among these are the beloved series One Piece and the much-awaited Digimon Adventure reboot, as announced by Toei Animation. “Due to the state of emergency in Japan caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have carefully considered the safety measures for the spread and have decided to suspend the simulcast and Japanese broadcasting of both One Piece and our new series Digimon Adventure,” they said.
In the meantime, they will be re-airing old episodes of One Piece starting April 26.
Other shows suspended are the following:
- The new Pokémon anime
- A Certain Scientific Railgun T
- Infinite Dendogram
- A3! Season Spring & Summer
- Healin’ Good PreCure
- Asteroid in Love
- The Misfit Of Demon King Academy
- Re:Zero Season 2
- and Tsukiuta. The Animation Season 2
Movies with delayed premieres are:
- Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel III. spring song
- PreCure Miracle Leap: A Wonderful Day With Everyone
- Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur
- and Violet Evergarden
Funimation will also be delaying its English dubbing of many anime series, including Boku no Hero Academia (starting episode 85), BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense (starting episode 9), and Darwin’s Game (starting episode 9).
Meanwhile, the following Spring 2020 shows simulcasted on Funimation will also be suspended:
- APPARE-RANMAN!, starting with Episode 4
- Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, starting with Episode 4
- The Millionaire Detective – Balance: UNLIMITED, starting with Episode 3
- No Guns Life Season 2, starting with Episode 1
- Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld Part 2, starting with Episode 1
