If you’ve been using Uber/ Grab for a while, you’re pretty much familiar with how the system works. However, if you’re fairly new, you might only know about it because of the various stories people share. And unfortunately, some drivers seem to be taking advantage of this.
Ish G. shares this story of an alleged “fake” uber driver who charges her almost double for her trip.
“Hi guys I just want to report this incident that happened a while ago. Take note of this vehicle: white HYUNDAI ACCENT AAA 5106
Iโm on my way to work (BGC).
Me: Ha?
Anyway, I just want to encourage everyone to report these kinds of incidents. Para din masolusyunan. Thank you and God bless!”
Rough English Translation
“Hi guys I just want to report this incident that happened a while ago. Take note of this vehicle: white HYUNDAI ACCENT AAA 5106
I got a ride after I got out of our subdivision. Pasig area, in the usual spot where I wait for cabs. I was on my way to work in BGC. I noticed that the private car had a meter running but nothing written on its doors like the plate number etc. so I felt a bit wary. When I look at the meter, my fare was already at P131 and we were only in c5, we had just been running for a few minutes. (the driver was somewhat hiding the meter so I only got a glimpse when he lifted his hand). I was directing him on which route to take so that he wouldn’t take me elsewhere. When we got to BGC, the meter read P299! My usual fare when riding a cab is only P200, and P181 when I take an Uber (with no surge). Our trip was quick (not much traffic) so I don’t understand how it went up to 299! I called the driver’s attention:
Me: Sir, why is my fare so high?
Manong: Maโam, it’s because I’m from Uber.
Me: Ha? Then I should have booked you,
He then gave me the receipt. (He no longer said anything but it was obvious how nervous he was with his lies) I was still saying a lot of other things but I still decided to pay him because I was afraid he wouldn’t let me off. I got the plate number of his car. AAA 5106. He even gave me a receipt that had a different plate number on it. On the receipt, it says TWX 900. Check the actual photo,
it also states ANTONIO SUELA TRANS but I feel this is fake too. I will report this to Uber and LTFRB so they are aware. He didn’t even have an uber gadget in his car, and besides, why would he ask for cash when Uber isn’t even cash based. He even has a meter that’s for cabs. Take note, his car looks like a private car but he was looking for passengers in the area where taxis wait. Anyway, I just want to encourage everyone to report these kinds of incidents so that we can find a solution. Thank you and God bless!”

We’re glad that Ish was able to get to her destination safely, but we also wonder what this driver was up to. It’s obvious that he was NOT from Uber, the mere fact that he waited in line at a taxi bay for a passenger. We sure hope the proper authorities are able to quickly put an end to this before anyone gets hurt.
Have you ever had a similar experience? Do share!
Uber has sticker + pagmalapit n yong driver mo sa location say in 5 minutes may text ka matatanggap n mlapit n sya. Paanu k magkakamali. You can always text them back for info
If she was looking for a Taxi, why would she ride an unmarked private car in the first place?
I want what she’s smoking!
next time, even in a rush, best do it the safe way. For me, it is good the passenger was unharmed.
