Box office director Cathy Garcia-Sampana is still open to the possibility of working on a reunion movie with former couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, she said, “I am not closing my doors doon sa project na yun. Kasi syempre, who wouldn’t want a KathNiel movie? But maybe, puwedeng ma-delay, puwedeng mausog lang naman [I am not closing my doors on that project. Of course, who wouldn’t want a KathNiel movie? But maybe, it can be delayed or rescheduled].”
In December 2022, she confirmed that a new movie starring Bernardo and Padilla was set to start its production in the first quarter of 2023. She described the speculated movie as “very different” from the former couple’s previous movies.

The director emphasized that the decision is still up to the two actors, “At the end of the day, it’s the call of the management and KathNiel themselves. Basta ako nandito lang ako [I’m just here] if they need me to do the film, of course.”
She also admitted that she was saddened by KathNiel’s breakup and revealed that she messaged both of them after they confirmed the news on November 30.
“We can only hope for the best. Basta ako, mahal ko si Kathryn. Mahal ko si Daniel. [I love Kathryn. I love Daniel.] In fact, that’s what I messaged them. After what I heard, I messaged Kathryn and Daniel that I love you,” she said.
“Hindi naman sila sumagot. Alam kong natanggap nila, at alam kong medyo marami nang iniisip, so ayoko nang sumabay pa [They didn’t respond. I know they received my message and I know there’s a lot going on in their mind, so I don’t want to bother].”

Garcia-Sampana directed several KathNiel movies and television series, including She’s Dating the Gangster, Pangako Sa’Yo, Got to Believe, and The Hows of Us.
