Andre Braugher, known best for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the beloved series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” has passed away. He was 61.
It was his publicist Jennifer Allen who confirmed the news to US reporters on Tuesday, December 12, although no official statement was released.
Apart from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Andre is known for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton on “Homicide: Life on Street” where he won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie for the show “Thief.”
He garnered four Emmy nominations for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” which also stars Andy Samberg, for supporting actor in comedy. The show ended its run in 2021 after eight seasons.
He was supposed to star in Shondaland’s new murder-mystery drama “The Residence” which temporarily suspended its production months ago due to the WGA strike. It is unclear whether Andre’s character in the series will be written off or recast as production is reportedly set to resume on January 2, 2024.
It is unknown what caused Andre’s untimely passing.
He is survived by his wife Ami Brabson and their three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
