It’s goodbye to the high life and jacuzzis, and hello to 8-square-meter jail cells for 17 of the “Bilibid 19” prisoners, the kingpins notorious for living in excess while imprisoned at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, according to local reports.
Their new cells at a new building in the New Bilibid Prison reportdly consist of the most basic necessities: bunk beds, a basin, a sink, a “tabo” or dipper, and a CCTV camera for increased security.
Local reports also say that each of the 29 cells in the new building can accommodate two inmates, and that some of the “Bilibid 19” inmates will have to share a cell.
It’s reportedly going to be a huge adjustment to this “simpler” lifestyle, as opposed to the excessive and lavish contraband luxuries the prisoners enjoyed in the past.
The 17 inmates were moved from their old quarters, Building 14, to their new cells Saturday early morning.
Reports say that Sec. Leila de Lima and Bureau of Corrections Chief Rainier Cruz III personally chose the guards to man the new building.
What do you think of this?? Will this decrease the corruption inside the prison cells?
i am confident that Gen Rainier Cruz will be able to solve the problems confronting the NBP. I know he’ll not fail the Filipino people. Good choice Sec Delima.
